According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
U.S. Route 212 serves as a main route in the city.
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 768 people, 294 households, and 197 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,235.0 people per square mile (478.3/km²). There were 313 housing units at an average density of 503.3 per square mile (194.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.45% White, 0.52% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 6.64% from other races, and 0.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.64% of the population.
There were 294 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 26.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $40,000, and the median income for a family was $43,958. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $25,000 for females.
